Birthday Treasure

Today is my 21st birthday. I was blessed to be home, on spring break, and treated like a queen from sun up to sun down by my loving family.

Every year, on my birthday, I like to take a portion of Scripture and personalize it as my “purpose statement” for the year.  This morning, I prayed that God would give me a special treasure from His Word.

Pioneers provided me with a Bible study, God’s Heart for the Nations, to work through as part of my spiritual preparation for missions. It has been a tremendous encouragement to focus on God’s will for His creation and for us as His children. Today, my study directed me to read Psalm 96. As I read, I decided that this was my passage for my 21st year.

I feel as though this is the year that God is broadening my perspective of calling and life purpose to include His greater world. I am gradually understanding how my personal relationship with Christ affects others, believers and nonbelievers alike. I am learning that I have been blessed by God so that I might be a blessings. I have glimpsed His glory that I might spread a passion for His name.

My chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever — in my heart, in my relationships, in my prayers, in my going out into my world.

God is good and for 21 years has shown Himself strong on my behalf. My prayer is that my vision of Him might be enlarged more and more as I seek to make Him known.

Psalm 96, personalized.

Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Tell of His salvation from day to day.
I was created to declare His glory among the nations,
and His glorious work among all peoples.
For I have tasted and seen that great is the Lord,
and greatly to be praised — in my life and in my world —
and to be feared above all gods
— all the worthless idols of clay, stone, and fashionings of the heart –
all these idols do not satisfy, they have no power.
Power and sovereignty belong to the Creator God.
The One who established the mountains establishes His love in my heart.
The One who laid the paths for rivers has laid the paths for my life.
The One who filled the oceans is abundantly sufficient for me.
He creates beauty and splendor wherever He goes. And I am made beautiful and strong in His presence.
As I worship, I am transformed into the radiant image of His Son.
As I go with Him into my world, I reflect the light of His glory.
